Beauty and the Beast si ispira alla serie omonima mandata in onda dalla CBS tra il 1987 e il 1990. Come si evince dal titolo, i due protagonisti sono la bella Catherine Chandler (Kristin Kreuk) e la bestia Vincent Keller (Jay Ryan). Catherine è una giovane detective del 125esimo distretto della polizia di New York, affiancata dalla collega Tess Vargas (Nina Lisandrello). Nove anni prima del racconto degli eventi, Cat era stata testimone dell’omicidio della madre e per poco non ci rimetteva le penne pure lei, se non fosse stata salvata da qualcuno. Una volta che Cat si imbatte in Vincent, capisce che era stato lui a salvarla anni addietro. Vincent Keller era un medico che, dopo l’attentato alle torri gemelle in cui persero la vita due suoi fratelli, decise di arruolarsi. Un gruppo di ricerca nominato Muirfield, però, fece degli esperimenti sui soldati, iniettando loro del DNA animale per farli diventare dei supersoldati. Il risultato fu devastante! Vincent riuscì a scappare dalla Muirfield e per 10 anni è stato nascosto in casa dell’amico J.T. Forbes (Austin Basis).
